Necromancer PvP
hi, I've noticed that necromancers can have a lot of utility and support kind of stuff in pvp. I'm wondering is it possible to not do that and build in a way to actually go toe to toe with something like a mesmer or warrior or dervish and actually kill them? Or is that impossible?

You'd have to be more specific. Are you playing an organized format or not?

no, i just mean running into some guy in JQ or RA and going toe to toe with them rather than being "utility" and "support" and running away from everything, or being an annoying contagion bomber

The game is neither designed nor balanced for 1v1.

i understand that, but could you just flat out say that its impossible for a necromancer to be built as a fighter if that is what you're trying to say

Well okay, flat answer is "yes" they could win 1v1, bring anti-melee and stack it like crap then build like a fighter, and they'll be the one running unless they brought holy veil or something.
But lemming's comment is warrented in that your question itself is just silly. If you could build your necromancer as a fighter it would only be efficient in 1v1 situations and be extremely poor in any other, hence the "guild wars is not 1v1".

a blood necro will often be able to overpower a melee class 1v1 for the simple reason that signet of suffering + life siphon (and a lot of other life stealing blood skills) provide for large amounts of degen on the opponent and regen on yourself.
Looking for a build that is solely successful 1v1 is stupid though, since a this isn't a 1v1 game.

He's not really talking about pure 1v1, he just wants to play something offensive and damage-based in JQ, RA etc. I've seen people play N/A variants with sin caster-damage skills combined with some necro lifesteal or other damage type. Just play around on Master of Damage and RA.

There was the N/A Toxic Chill bar used for 1v1 (of sorts) and jug/turtle hunting.

Yeah I don't mean pure anti-mellee either, I just mean fight everything in general. thanks for the suggestions guys.
by the way, I don't understand how being able to fight 1 person means that you are totally useless in every other situation.. Pretty sure that a build that has the potential to kill one guy would be able to contribute well to a larger scale battle with its damage output. Its not like many skills in the game say "This skill only does something if there is just one foe within earshot"

Ah I see.
However as to your second comment, yes being able to fight 1 person can make you totally useless in every other situation. Quite simply, everything has a counter from at least one class, but in 1 v 1 situations perhaps the class your fighting cannot deal with it as well as another.
Pure non-spike damage, what your describing you like, is very easily countered efficiently with healing, usually self heals even. Warriors are different, since they actually are also about spike, kds, and harassment as well as constant damage, which they do a their fair share of course.
Edit: If you want pure caster damage why not choose something other than necro? Eles are great at that in unorganized pvp.

The majority of non-gimmick templates do better when there are other people around, so while it might be true that a certain template that doesn't do any WORSE when there are other people around, the fact that other templates get better means that, comparatively, there are better options. If you want me to elaborate I will, but I'm feeling kind of lazy ATM
